Rovos Rail - The most luxurious train in the world

Experience the extravagant elegance of rail travel on the most luxurious train in the world. Rovos Rail’s unique safaris through the heart of Africa combine some of the most magnificent scenery with the glamour and excitement of the golden age of rail and air travel. The beautifully restored trains, consisting of Royal suites, Deluxe suites, and the new Pullman suites, offer accommodation of the highest standard, combining the opulence of pre-war travel with subtle modern innovations. The sleeper coaches are the epitome of luxury, with exquisite wood panelling, Edwardian features, as well as every modern convenience. Traditional furnishings and period décor ensure an atmosphere of elegance and grandeur in the Dining, Lounge and Observation cars. The superb cuisine is simple and elegant with an emphasis on fresh local ingredients and a selection of fine wines complement the menu.

All of the trips begin or end at the headquarters of this superb private railway company, the historic Capital Park Station and Locomotive yard, situated on the outskirts of Pretoria. Choose from a series of train journeys lasting from 24 hours to a fortnight as the Pride of Africa links some of Africa’s greatest destinations. Join us on the fourteen day Dar Es Salaam sojourn, the two day trip between Cape Town and Pretoria, the 55 hour game safari from Pretoria to Durban, the 48 hour meander between Pretoria and the Victoria Falls, the 24 hours between Cape Town and George, the seven day Namibian special, the nine day Collage between Pretoria, Malelane, Durban and Cape Town or the nine day Golf Safari.

The Blue Train - A window to the soul of Africa

Since its inception in 1946, The Blue Train has become recognised as the epitome of luxury rail cruises and an icon of the Southern African tourism, hospitality and leisure experience. Comparable to the world's finest hotels, each suite on board the train offers five star luxury accommodation, with private en-suite bathroom facilities. The luxury element on board the train is accentuated by the personalised butler service. The Blue Train prides itself on the fine cuisine it offers its guests, with meals that are accompanied by a wide selection of South African wines sourced only from boutique vineyards. The onboard experience is complemented by scenic landscape as the train meanders across the southernmost part of the African continent.

Recently redesigned and renovated, The Blue Train has cemented its place in history as the benchmark of luxury recreation. Some of the technology that has been incorporated into the newly revamped train includes a sophisticated suspension system which offers one of the smoothest rides that can be found on any train anywhere in the world, and for additional safety, the locomotives have been fitted with a specially designed braking system. Another innovation is that one of the two train sets now boasts a state-of-the-art conference facility, which is elegantly equipped with an array of audio-visual equipment and can accommodate up to 22 guests. The Blue Train can also be chartered for a variety of purposes including: conferences, product launches, incentives or team-building sessions.
